Remarks on Colour

about

Taking its name from Wittgenstein's 1950 collection of writings, Remarks on Colour brings together the work of artists who engage with colour from a conceptual, speculative, performative, or archival approach. How does colour operate beyond the purely visual? What is its relationship to language, and how is it still shaped by cultural, aesthetic, and intellectual biases? How does it function as a sign, and what symbolic meanings does it carry? Through the work of contemporary artists, this exhibition explores the shifting significance of colour and its complex place in art, philosophy, and everyday life. An extensive program of public activities invites visitors to further explore the prismatic phenomenon of colour.

Pieter Vermeulen is an art critic, curator, and lecturer based in Belgium. He studied philosophy and cultural studies at the universities of Antwerp, Leuven, and Prague. Currently, he holds affiliations with PXL-MAD (Media, Arts & Design faculty) in Hasselt and St. Lucas School of Arts in Antwerp, where he teaches courses in contemporary art & theory, artistic research, and self-organisation. As an editor and writer, Vermeulen has contributed to numerous art publications, and his writings have been widely published. Vermeulen is an ICI Curatorial Intensive alumnus (New York) and a member of AICA International.
