abstract

These notations are formal, geometric compositions that define the movement of the eponymous kinetic installation 'framework f5x5x5'. As such, they invert the principle of drawing movement in time with the visual abstract language of painting.

text

Following the logic of the kinetic installation 'framework', these notations are a plot from the generative process. By flattening the temporal evolution of a single element, frame, into a single image, the underlying time-based composition of the installation is visualised. These generated black and white patterns create a specific perceptual experience of a discordant figure-ground relationship through which a new visual pattern emerges from the vibrating texture effect. This optical effect suggests an autonomous visual movement that reveals the kinetic principle of the installation. As notations, they are a tool to compose in time, and as images, they reveal the abstract and formal rules.
